Filmmaker Tariq Nasheed is the director of the ongoing documentary film series Hidden Colors that describe and explain the marginalizing of African Americans in America and the rest of the world.

CBS Atlanta called the film controversial. But BET reviewed it as “one of the most successful Black independent documentaries”.

1804 – The Hidden History of Haiti is intended as episode #5 of Hidden Colors, adding another installation to the Hidden Colors series. An associate producer who has been a part of the documentaries expressed an interest about it to Professor Kaba Hiawatha Kamene.

The plan was to seek the professor’s expertise to cover the hidden history of Haiti and the Haitian Revolution and to discuss it in a language that the African people speak. The show, 1804 – The Hidden History of Haiti, will be presented from their perspective and will go back to when it actually began, which is earlier than 1804.

Philippe SHOCK Matthews describes the trailer as something he’d never seen before and it presents a side of the victory of the African people that has never been seen.

Many wars fought by the African people were never shown or even discussed. The film 1804 – The Hidden History of Haiti intends to remedy this with the focus of the untold story of the Haitian Revolution.

Filmmaker Tariq Nasheed included a lot of re-enactments in the film that Professor James Small calls not even enough to truly describe the amount of genocide that actually happened. Still, it brought a different level of awareness about the African people and the hidden history of the Haitian Revolution.

There are also plenty of lessons to learn from the Hidden Colors series.

Professor Kaba Hiawatha Kamene, who has been a part of the Hidden Colors since the beginning, lauded the way filmmaker Tariq Nasheed and his staff promoted the film series. He shared a story about the time the first Hidden Colors series were shown where young people came to watch even if their expectations were completely different from what the show is all about.

In closing the show, Professor Kaba Hiawatha Kamene has this to say, “we have to understand that when we understand our history and we understand who we are as a people, when we understand what we’ve done and where we’ve been then we can understand where we need to be.”

He emphasizes the need to unite regardless of all differences, “It may be of a people who speak a different language and then I speak and it may be geographically in a place that is not like me. But the nature of the color of my skin and the color of their skin no matter who they were, they have treated us the same. So we have a common history together as to what is and we have impacted each other. And we have got to begin to act like we are all related and come together in a way that we can solve some of the great challenges and meet the needs of our people.”

It is clear from the 1804 – the Hidden History of Haiti review, based on the comments of Professor James Small, Professor Kaba Hiawatha Kamene, and Dr. David Imhotep that 1804 – The Hidden History of Haiti is worth watching.

It will be an enlightening experience, showing a different perspective about the African people and the truth about the Haitian Revolution.

Kaba Hiawatha Kamene

A Bronx educator since October 6, 1979, Kaba Hiawatha Kamene is a teacher, administrator, consultant, curriculum writer, and staff developer. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Politics from New York University, and two Masters Degrees – Masters in Art from Hunter College in New York History and Masters in Science of Educational Administration and Supervision from City College of New York.

One of the books he’s written is entitled Honoring Professor William Leo Hansberry (1894-1965): An Intellectual Libation For The Architect Of America’s African Studies Department.

He also has a host of DVDs and Lectures that include Introduction and Overview of the Moors in World History (DVD), Mi aMoor (CD and hardcover book), Spirituality Before Religions Free Ecourse (Lecture), and The Life History of the Human Race (eBook).

Dr. David Imhotep

Born David C. Jones, Dr. David Imhotep is a lecturer, professor, author, and historian at historic truth/Egypt in the Bahamas tours-current. He completed his undergraduate studies in Business Administration at the University of Nebraska and holds a Master’s of Science Degree from Nova University in both Science and Computer Education.

His first book entitled The First Americans Were Africans won an international literary award a year after it was published in 2011.

He also wrote They Came Before Adam or Eve, which is a rewritten dissertation that is not religion-related. It shows how the civilization in the Nile Valley predated Mesopotamia’s Civilization by thousands of years. 7 Interdisciplinary Sciences serve as the basis for the book.

He is widely respected as an Afrotologist, providing impressive enlightenment on ancient African topics and Civilizations. Since 1980, Dr. David Imhotep has been researching and collecting information on Black history.

Professor James Small

Professor James Small was born in 1945 and graduated from the all Black Howard High School in Georgetown, South Carolina in 1964.

He has been a member of the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilization (A.S.C.A.C.) for fourteen years and has taught for nearly twenty years at the City University of New York, including 17 years at the City College of New York’s Black Studies Department.

Prof. Small is conducting cultural and educational tours around the US and Africa. He has also lectured at some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the world.
