Self-realization is defined in many ways, depending on culture and beliefs, but it will always be that fulfillment that a person achieves when they discover their true character and potential.
Indian yogi and guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, defines it as “the knowing – in body, mind, and soul – that we are one with the omnipresence of God; that we do not have to pray that it comes to us, that we are not merely near it at all times, but that God’s omniscience is our omnipresence; that we are just as much a part of the Universe now as we ever will be. All we have to do is improve our knowing”.
The good news is we can rely on TJ Woodward to help us improve “our knowing”, and his book Conscious Being: Awakening to Your True Nature is just one of the many tools that you can use to live a life that is intentional and awakened.
Apart from being a spiritual author, TJ Woodward is also the founding spiritual director of an organization Awakened Living in San Francisco, the 21st century movement where community members are people who consider themselves spiritual, and have a deep longing and hunger for personal and global transformation.
They are not necessarily religious, but seek to live a deeply fulfilling life and, at the same time, create a world where peace and love prevail. The mission of the community is to bring about the awakening of human consciousness, which has a strong and deep link to self-realization.
Before he became a spiritual author and director, he was like the majority of the population – working in the corporate world and living life like everyone else. He was a visual merchandiser in a well-known known retail and clothing company, and then went on to become an owner and designer of a furniture company.
It was in 2009 when his career choice took a sudden turn. He became a residential counselor in an alcoholic rehab and drug treatment facility, working closely with patients and therapists to help in the recovery programs. But even then he was already involved in the world of spiritual programs and communities.
As a ministerial associate and residential counselor at the same time, it was only natural for TJ Woodward to move into the direction of becoming a spiritual care counselor in the same rehabilitation facility. From working with dual diagnosis recovery program, he developed specialized spiritual component that was added into the primary treatment program.
He also conducted individual spiritual counseling sessions every week, and assessed client’s spirituality. So if there is anyone who has the knowledge and experience to talk about awakened living and self-realization, TJ Woodward would be the perfect person.
Since January 2013, he has hosted the talk radio show Awakened Living Radio with TJ Woodward, a 15-minute radio show that is done weekly to help individuals embrace a peaceful, connected, and happy life.
As author of the book Conscious Being: Awakening to Your True Nature, TJ Woodward has inspired and enlightened many people. But, he is also willing to connect with individuals on a personal level, if they so desire.
Being a counselor for nearly half of his life, it is natural for him to offer the service ‘Counseling with TJ’, which is open to everybody and everyone who needs to be un-stuck with the chaotic life that they live and discover a spiritual transformation that can make a huge difference .
There are many reasons that people find it hard to be happy or peaceful and they often feel powerless to do anything about their situation. Well, this is exactly what counseling with TJ can help you deal with and get rid of for good.
Through this service, you will be able to harness the power of your intentions, reverse your negative thoughts and dwelling on negative patterns, learn tried-and-tested methods for living an existence that is purposeful, and get a chance to live a life that is joyful, loving and connected.

What is the basic teaching of Awakened Living?
According to TJ Woodward, Awakened Living, at its core, “recognizes we are one with source, one with God, one with light, and one with love. That fundamental understanding revolutionarily changes our lives, in dramatic ways”.
Did you know that the person can be awake without being conscious?
You may be in a state of wakefulness, but your brain is not processing any internal or external stimulus. You are more like brain dead, even if you are wide awake. Experts believe that being conscious is wakefulness plus content, something that may sound simple but very hard to achieve.
But with the help of the book Conscious Being: Awakening to Your True Nature, you can get rid of any confusion you might have about the concept and learn of many ways that you can live an awakened life.
Who is the book for?
Conscious Being: Awakening to Your True Nature is for everyone, but most especially to people who are seeking self-realization. It is a sad reality that people are born in a state or situation that has already been set by society, and the people around them.
If they accept what they see and experience based on what exists, they are actually missing out on a lot of things, particularly their full potential and character.
If people do not make an effort to dig deep and discover who they really are and what they are truly capable of, they will just so through the motion and the endless cycle continues.
Excerpt from Conscious Being
“The messages that created a false self-image might have come from family members, friends…or authority figures that we assumed were wiser than us. These messages continue as we grow into adulthood, getting layered upon… However, when we wake up to the reality of who we are, we see that we were given those messages by people who were themselves living in a state of forgetfulness about their true identity. They were not capable of always mirroring an accurate reflection to us.”
However, if you seek self-realization you will be able to live a life filled with happiness and contentment. This should be reason enough to read the book Conscious Being.
What will you gain from the book?
- Learn how to remove the shackles of self-limiting beliefs and the illusion of ego
If you are wondering why you seem to fail in almost everything that you do, the answer could lie in your subconscious and the beliefs that keep you from stepping out of your comfort zone and taking risks.
- Shift into deeper awareness of your inner wisdom
In psychology, inner wisdom is that little voice inside you that is representative of who you really are. After you strip away the standards and expectations that society and everyone else has imposed on you, the only thing that will be left is your inner wisdom.
Being able to listen to it will help you connect with others on a deeper level. Most importantly, it will allow you to be truly genuine and real, so you can establish a true connection with yourself and with others.
The book will also help you find your own spiritual transformation, align yourself with an existence filled with compassion, love and purpose, open your heart to a new way of being, help you embrace a life filled with peace, connection and happiness, and most importantly, discover your essential nature, so you can live an intentional and awakened and life.
Apparently, there is un-awakened and awakened living, and the book clearly outlines the differences between the two.
You are in a state of un-awakened living when you…
• Blame others for unwanted experiences that you went through
• Judge “people or situations as right/wrong, good/bad”
• Feel superior or inferior
• Are easily affected by what other say or do, getting emotional over such things
You are in a state of awakened living when you…
• Experience “oneness and connection”
• Choose to accept and understand
• Feel authentic and vulnerable
• Are “unattached to outcomes”
These are just some of the things you will be able to learn when you read Conscious Being: Awakening to Your True Nature. Imagine having such a powerful tool within reach. Every time you feel in doubt of your capability, you just turn the page and be reminded right away that you are perfect, you are unique and that you have achieved a state of being conscious that very few people has experienced.
