By: Philippe Matthews Everybody who has heard the Philippe Matthews Show story knows that if it were not for Mark Victor Hansen, I would not have seriously considered launching a TV show. I’m sure you’ve seen the wonderful endorsement Mark gave me; calling me the “Oprah of Internet.” Directly and indirectly, Mark Victor Hansen along with Robert G. Allen, expanded the vision I had for my life when they co-authors the One Minute Millionaire! In this exclusive interview with Mark Victor Hansen, he shared how this phenomenal book came to be and the power of partnership forged this dynamic publishing duo. Get ready to relearn the secrets of millionaireship; one minute at a time.
Philippe Matthews:
What was your mission with the One Minute Millionaire?
Mark Victor Hansen:
“Our position with the book is that we are the key to turn on the engine that’s going to take this wealth machine back up again. America thinks it’s out of wealth; and where America is the world is. There is no lack of wealth or resources, there is no lack of money.”
Philippe Matthews:
How did you and Bob Allen meet?
Mark Victor Hansen:
“Bob and I met thirty five years ago, I attended his seminar. He was at the front end of ‘Nothing Down’; I bought the book, and it said just do one house a year. Now, I wish he had said do ten!”
Philippe Matthews: In the book, you talk about the emphasis of clarity. Mark Victor Hansen: “Well, clarity is power. Most people are muddled in their thinking and you get exactly what you are clear about. You have to go that extra mile. Every minute you go over 40 hours a week, you are putting the universe in your debt. You don’t have to be focused all the time; but you have to have concentrated focus, and once you have that deliverable, you obtain the results you want. For example, you get the ‘money-freedom’ you want, so you can buy off the ‘time-freedom’. Thus, you can take off a month and explore your spiritual freedom, because each of us needs to do that in our own spiritual way.” Philippe Matthews: Tell me about the power of Be, Do and Have. Mark Victor Hansen: “In consciousness and awareness, you have to be something; and usually when your eyes are closed, you can see who you can be and then you have got to go do the doings to have the having. We had to be the wealth we wanted to do so we could have the real wealth and really share the wealth. The real wealth we want is that of empowering all humanity to their greatness and fullness. Everyone has talent to use but they are under serving, which is the problem of most of us. When you are under served, you under live and under source others because when you are great, other people can begin to see their own light. Everybody has some talent that they can bring to the genius level. That includes everyone.”
Philippe Matthews:
Talk to me about being a money magnet.
Mark Victor Hansen:
“Most people have a money rejection complex rather than a money acceptance complex. Most of us don’t even know that we have a money rejection complex. Why? Our parents, peers, and our world say you don’t need that much money or who do you think I am Rockefeller? When Jack Canfield went to Harvard, his roommate was Lawrence Rockefeller and Jack said, ‘Do you know what they say in the street? They say who do you think I am Rockefeller, do you think I am made of money? What did your dad say when you asked him for money?’ He said, ‘Larry, how much do you want?’ So, the size of your question determines the size of your result; and once you are a money magnet, you are going to attract greats to you.”
Philippe Matthews:
Tell me about giving and receiving.
Mark Victor Hansen:
“I believe America is the greatest country in the world for one redeeming reason—we are the most giving. Givers get and the great givers are the greatest givers of the world.”
Philippe Matthews:
The power of mentoring is addressed in One Minute Millionaire. Why is mentoring so important?
Mark Victor Hansen:
“Bob and I could not find anyone great that didn’t have a mentor. We’re saying there are seven levers to success, and the first one is you have to have a vision and we talked about that with clarity. If you have a clear enough vision, you can do anything. Then, you have to find a mentor – someone who has done what you want to do and the way you want to do.”
Philippe Matthews: How do you qualify a mentor? Mark Victor Hansen: “You qualify a mentor by results. Leadership is always by results. Did they bring home the bacon? The reason Bob and I got a million dollars in advance for this book is real simple, both of us turn books into New York Times Best-sellers, which means we are rockin’ through a lot of book sales.” Philippe Matthews: We now know about the power of mentoring and how to qualify a mentor. How do we qualify a mentee? Mark Victor Hansen: “What a mentee has to have is something to give back. When I worked with Bucky Fuller, it wasn’t a free ride. I was with him for seven years and was absorbing eighteen hours a day of knowledge. So, what a mentee does for a mentor is they have to contribute back. They have to figure out what they are going to contribute to the mentor. It could be as simple as carrying his or her suitcase.”
Philippe Matthews:
You have a great chapter on the power of leveraging in your book. Tell me more.
Mark Victor Hansen:
“We teach seven new forms of leverage that are only in this book. Leverage is speed. You have to have the lever of vision; then you have to have a good mentor, a good team and a good network. This is because your network creates your net worth; then you have to have a network with networks in it. You have to have the right tools. Then you have to have a system that works every time you work it. Next, you have to have an infinite system and a lot of people are willing to pray, but not do the stuff they have to do within their systems. You have to do everything in your system first, then give it over to prayer and God; then it will come back to you and fulfill your heart.”
Philippe Matthews:
What did you mean in the book about having an ‘aligned’ team’?
Mark Victor Hansen:
“It means that everyone on your team has to be congruent. They have to be going toward the same picture. That’s the aligned team we are looking for.”
Philippe Matthews:
You say wealth is freedom. Yes?
Mark Victor Hansen:
“You are not free if you don’t have money when there is a need for medicine. But, the other part of money is the network. For example, when my kid gets sick, wealth says, ‘Don’t you have a doctor we can personally call and get this solved?’ Today with socialized medicine, we’ve got the best doctors; but we have a system that is decadent. The model right now is paying the insurance companies and not letting doctors be doctors. We’re not letting teachers teach, we’re not letting nurses nurse. 94% of failure is system failure, and we have systems that are not giving good medicine. Are you old enough to remember when you could call your doctor and your doctor knew your name? We have more doctors now and less service. Therefore, wealth is about having a network.”
Philippe Matthews:
You also talk about specialized systems in ‘One Minute Millionaire’. What are specialized systems?
Mark Victor Hansen:
“There are two specialized systems that we say you’ve got to have. Every wealthy person has two things going for them that non-wealthy or poor people don’t have, and one is you must have multiple sources of income. If you only have one source of income, you have a job and are Just Over Broke. We want you to have a real MBA, which is a Massive Bank Account. For instance, I write books, I own real estate, I have investments, I have Internet income, and I have seven corporations. The second thing you have to have is residual income, which means it is self-perpetuating. There are pieces of real estate that I bought once and it brings in thousands and thousands of dollars every month. It’s paid itself off over time and I’ve got good management, which is key because on the front end you may have to clean some toilets; but as you get along, you get someone else to do that work for you. I know how to do it, but that isn’t the highest best use. The highest best use is the thinking and that’s the hard part. I have residual income on the books. I wrote ‘Chicken Soup For The Soul’ more than twenty years ago to the point I am still being paid for that book; and my great, great, great grandkids will get paid on that because we’ve made it an institution. Therefore, it’s part of our culture.”
I want to personally recommend my good friend and mentor, Mr. Mark Victor Hansen…
I would never have written my book, nor would I have launched my TV talk show if it were not for Mark’s guidance and belief in me that I could do it!
