Blockbuster is finally coming to the iPad. The video-rental company, which Dish Network acquired in April, has been trying to remake itself in the eyes of consumers after last year's bankruptcy sale

On Friday, Dish Network and Blockbuster held an event called "A Stream Come True," where many assumed the two companies would finally reveal what they've been working on since the acquisition five months ago. How would Dish revive Blockbuster, a badly bruised brand, to compete in such a crowded and competitive space? "When the technology changes, when the customer changes, you better change," began Dish Network CEO Joe Clayton Friday.

Joe Clayton, CEO of Dish Network, the company that recently acquired Blockbuster, has had a good couple of months--without really doing too much to bolster the Blockbuster brand. Instead, he's just kicked back, microwaved a bowl of popcorn, and watched as Netflix has assumed the role of evil movie villain. The tragedy begins back in July, when Netflix announced a 60% price hike for one of its subscription plans.

Blockbuster spent a significant part of last year ignoring its impending demise. Then-CEO Jim Keyes argued that Netflix was not competition and that the startup had nothing to do with Blockbuster's financial troubles. Keyes said with a straight face that Blockbuster was undergoing an Apple-like comeback and that bankruptcy was out of the question
