Quantum theory is one of the most profound discoveries of humanity. In my view, it s on a par with Cuban cigars and single malt whiskey. The theory has been hugely successful in showing us the inner workings of the universe.

Feed SubscriptionWhy Neutrinos Might Wimp Out
In case you missed the news, a team of physicists reported in September that the tiny subatomic particles known as neutrinos could violate the cosmic speed limit set by Einstein’s special theory of relativity. The researchers, working on an experiment called OPERA, beamed neutrinos through the earth’s crust, from CERN, the laboratory for particle physics near Geneva, to Gran Sasso National Laboratory in L’Aquila, Italy, an underground physics lab. According to the scientists’ estimates, the neutrinos arrived at their destination around 60 nanoseconds quicker than the speed of light

(PhysOrg.com) -- According to the cosmological principle, there is no special place or direction in the universe when viewed on the cosmic scale. The assumption enabled Copernicus to propose that Earth was not the center of the universe and modern scientists to assume that the laws of physics are the same everywhere. Due to the cosmological principle, scientists also assume that the universe is homogeneous - having a uniform structure throughout - and isotropic - having uniform properties throughout.
