China is no longer a developing nation, at least in terms of CO2 emissions. The country has graduated to "developed" status, according to a new report claiming that the country could meet or surpass U.S CO2 levels by 2017. The report , written by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, claims that the combination of China's carbon-heavy industries and rapidly increasing infrastructure are responsible for the growth.

It may be responsible for the financial meltdown, but while it was writing bad mortgages, Bank of America was also doing excellent work reducing its footprint. There are lot of problems in the world, and myriad ways to fix them. It's almost impossible to address them all at the same time.

Jamming carbon deep underground has long been a proposed solution to our emissions problems, but it's expensive and rarely used. Now we can use the Earth's heat to make that gas work for us. Geothermal power production and CO2 storage are both well-known practices in the energy world: one generates power from thermal energy that is generated and stored in the Earth, and the other is used to store CO2 from coal-fired power plants (or other dirty industrial plants) to prevent the greenhouse gas from entering the atmosphere.
