At the age of 26, Mark’s married life came to a shocking close, and it was a life event that was such a burden for him to bear. How his nine year relationship (six years in a relationship, married for three) ended caused him to think that his life was over.

Suicide attempts

The experience of having his marriage end was too painful that he even took to Google and began searches for “How to take my own life?”, “How to overdose?”, and “How to commit suicide?” He searched for countless hours searching for the answers he needed for these questions. What’s worse, he actually attempted suicide, but it failed.

As he was sitting in that hospital bed, it got him to thinking about the way he lived his life. He thought that at 26 years old, he really has never truly lived. This got him contemplating deeply about “we live life once.”

With the “we live life once” attitude, he was able to view his life as a blank canvas where he can be the creator of the picture he wanted to paint.

Finding reason to live

Four months after his suicide attempt, he created tribewanted.com and leased a 200-acre island in Fiji. It was a program that invited people from around the world to become ‘tribe members’ who had to make key decisions about the development of the island online then visited the island to take part in growing the community.

Needless to say, the project was a success and Mark ended up being featured across international media. He had appearances on Good Morning America, the Today Show, The Sydney Morning Herald, and even the South China Morning Post.

Tribewanted.com was filmed for 18 months, and became a 5-part primetime television show. It aired across the world in the US, UK, and Australia. Not only that, the show went on to win a number of awards.

After the success of tribewanted.com, things didn’t go smoothly again for Mark. He delved into two other businesses that were unsuccessful and pushed him to the edge of bankruptcy. However, with the use of his life change principles, he once again turned his life around but this time, as a coach for entrepreneurs and business owners the world over. He used both his success and failures to help them instigate powerful changes in their life.

Success and inspiration

MBSince 2012, Mark has been developing MarkBowness.com, which is a website that provides free resources, blogs, and podcasts that provide not only inspiration but techniques that allow individuals to instigate their life change as well.

Mark has also been awarded for his hard work and dedication, and these accolades include:

  • The ‘Make Your Mark Award’
  • The Channel 4, 4Talent Award for Rising Talent
  • The title Future 500 “mover and shaker” award which as awarded by The Observer Newspaper in 2007
  • Shortlisted for the Young Entrepreneur Award 2007

Over the course of his life, Mark has experienced a lot of challenges and has overcome them. As a child, he was bullied. As an adult, he had a relationship head towards marriage but end in divorce. As an entrepreneur, he tasted both the sweetness of success and the bitterness of failure. Yes, all of these were painful experiences, but he managed to shake them all off and move on to the next chapter of his life.

His success today shows that changing your life whenever you encounter setbacks can put you on a path that leads toward success. Subscribe to the Philippe Matthews Show Exceptional Thinkers Daily Quotes to enjoy more of Mark Bowness.
